Manganese oxide encrustation; coating large clast/fragment of red clay, with overyling graded layer of volcanic dust tuff. Very nice specimen, showing stratigraphy on broken face. Old label says "Manganese slab No. 281 Date 6th Oct. 1875 Lat South Pacific Depth 2385 fathoms".
