Whale skull (Mesoplodon layardii (Strap-toothed whale))

Description

Notes: Skull, mandible - rostrum damaged, mandible damaged. Right tympano-periotic bones separate. Right tooth removed and sectioned. Juvenile (immature), probably female according to Turner. Skeleton (no flippers) missing. Washed up at Port Sussex, East Falkland Island, [late] 1875 and collected by H. N. Moseley at Port Stanley, Falkland Islands. Challenger specimen C (see HMS Challenger cetacean report, page 1)
