Sea urchin (Austrocidaris canaliculata)

Copyright/attribution: Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum

Description

Synonyms: Goniocidaris canaliculata

Notes: Three sea urchin specimens mounted onto a black board and placed inside a rectangular glass jar. The specimens are cream/off white in colour and have short spines attached to the main body. Hand written in white ink on black paper attached to a brown piece of material tied around the jar is '"SE URCHIN". Goniocidaris canaliculata, Agas ? Falkland Isles.' Typed in black ink on off white paper attached to the bottom right hand side of the black label is 'From Trustees, Brit. Mus. "Challenger Coll." There is no liquid left inside the jar and the specimens are completely dry. The specimens are in bad condition, a lot of the spines have fallen off the main body and are lying at the bottom of the jar or are hanging off the specimen. The black board inside the jar moves slightly so care should be taken when handling the specimen.
