Description

Notes: Pre-printed label with specimen (formerly in spirit) states "Challenger" Expedition" and "Pres. by Brit. Mus: Nov.99." Handwritten pencil number "26" and name in centre states "Ascopodaria fruticosa/(Stn 163a) 150 fathoms". see Published Report on the Scientific Results of the Exploring Voyage of HMS Challenger: Zoology. Vol XVII. R-200: Last Section 'Report on the Polyzoa, p.42-43'. This includes a discussion on the taxonomy; lists 4 Ascopodaria species and states that Hincks identifies the species as "Ascopodaria socialis". Station 163a is identified, page 43, as off Twofold Bay, Port Philip Heads. This specimen appears in the Perth Museum 1899 Accession register as 1899.54.42 (BM No.26).
