Sea urchin (Brissopsis lyrifera)

Synonyms: Brissus lyrifer

Notes: Three sea urchin specimens. The top specimen has it's test removed and is still attached to the board and the other two specimens are loose at the bottom of the jar. The specimens are cream in colour with a slight greenish tinge. Attached to the jar is a black label with a red rim. This is attached to a piece of brown material tied around the base of the jar. Hand wriiten in white ink is '"SEA URCHIN" Brissopsis lyrifera, Agassiz. [one with the test removed showing Alimentary Canal.] CAPE OF GOOD HOPE. Station 141.' Typed in black ink on off-white paper on the bottom right hand side of the black label is 'From the Trustees, Brit. Mus. "Challenger Coll."' Hand written in pencil on off-white paper is 'Brissopsis lyrifera (Station 141) B.'There is no liquid left in the jar and the specimens are completely dry. The top specimen is still attached to the board inside the jar. The bottom two specimens are no longer attached and are at the bottom of the jar and are free to move around. The lid is attached to the top of the jar.
