Description

Notes: Handwritten label acompanying specimen reads "Stones one ice worn Granite basalt Feb 14. 1874 dredged off the pack ice in 1675 fathoms. Bottom yellow brown clay with plenty of diatoms. Lat 65?42 S Long. 79? 49 E.". Another handwritten label reads "Piece of Antarctic Conti -nent. Dredged Feb 14. 1874 off the pack ice. Lat 65.42.S Long. 78.48.E. in 1670 fathoms. The bottom was a brown clay containing plenty of diatoms but not entirely composed of them as before. Granite + [] fragments were plentiful in the clay evidently ice borne.". Another handwritten label reads "Stones dredged off S the pack ice. Feb 14 1874 Lat 65. 42 S Long. 79.49 E 1670 fathoms.".
