Notes: Label reads: Calcareous foraminiferal sand. With volcanic debri. Off Banda, Spice Islands. 17 fathoms. In pencil inside box: 10-10-74. Note: Date perhaps incorrect? In the reports (summary of results) the Challenger remained at Banda from 29th September until October 2nd 1874 - here they did dredgings at 17 fathoms with sediment being volcanic sand/gravel. On the 10th October the Challenger was at Amboina, not Banda - there were dredgings between 15 and 130 fathoms though this was shells and sand - no mention of volcanic debri.
