The Philippines to Hawaii (stations 206 to 261)

HMS Challenger carried on her journey by travelling to Papua New Guinea, then on to the Inland seas of Japan and onwards to the Hawaiian Islands (then known as the Sandwich Islands), stopping off at numerous points along the way to dredge and trawl the deep sea. The ship anchored at Hawaii for three weeks, up to the 19 August 1875 where as well as collecting marine and plant life, the crew explored the Hawaiian culture.
